Introduction

ScottishPower Renewables (UK) Limited is currently developing a proposed solar farm at Knighton, in Staffordshire. The development will consist of panels capable of generating up to 50 megawatts (MW) of renewable electricity, and will include a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) capable of storing up to 75 megawatt hours (MWh) of power and providing services to the local electricity grid to ensure that power supplies remain consistent and stable. 

An EIA Screening Request was submitted to Stafford Borough Council in September 2021, and a full planning application under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 is expected to be submitted in December 2021.

Site Description

The site is located just south of Doley, to the east of the Staffordshire/Shropshire border. The proposed site shown above is around 140 hectares (350 acres), including areas set aside for environmental or visual amenity, although final details of the site boundary and layout are pending confirmation.

The proposed site is a sustainable location for a solar development and will meet national, strategic and local planning objectives.

Consultation

Early consultation is key to the way SPR develops projects, and throughout the process SPR ensure local communities and stakeholders are given the opportunity to provide feedback and are kept informed of project progress.
